The E+STEAM class gives the students a unique opportunity to learn and use English in a free environment.
There are 2 classes now: a topical class and a talking class.
The topical class
In this class we discuss certain topics that deals with real life. We learn through touch, we ply, we experience and we internalize. We do topics like cooking, art and science. Students are encouraged to talk freely, in order for them to learn. Then they get the opportunity to internalize the topic in self study, and then they have to present or explain their findings, experiences or outcomes, either to the teacher or to the class.
The talking class
The environment of this class is focused on generating confidence in speaking English naturally and freely. We learn speaking techniques, and apply this in the class. We do topics like drama, poems, creative and critical thinking. We will explore an idea as a while, then each student needs to prepare to give a short presentation, either to the teacher, or to the class. We encourage them to have confidence in public speaking, and to vocalize their thoughts, feelings and opinions in English.
What is the outcome of the E+STEAM class?
The normal class situation is one of Q&A, a teacher repeating words and sentence patterns and drill the students to learn. They are expected to know the content and be tested on it. The E+STEAM class does the opposite. There is not a measured outcome.
Instead, students are giving a chance to talk, to ask and to interact with the teacher and classmates as if it was their native environment. They are encouraged to speak English always, therefore, they will formulate their opinions, ideas and experiences in English. This will make their language abilities natural.
As oppose to always know the answer to a question, or respond in a ‘correct way’, students learn to communicate and learn to express themselves. This will help them to speak English naturally and to use English with confidence, in a normal, unscripted environment.
We understand that Taiwan does not lean it to this kind on environment for students, and we believe it is an essential part of mastering the language. That means not to recite certain words, but to communicate naturally, efficiently and confidently.
Therefore the outcome cannot be measured traditionally. Instead, we see it as an investment to their abilities to communicate masterfully and well rounded and to ready for any situation.
Why should my kids attend the E+STEAM class?
Imagine you were living in English speaking country. There would be normal, real life stimuli to effect our learning outside the classroom, but in English. There is no environment in Taiwan where this can happen, so our goal is to create this environment. This will develop natural language abilities and confidence in using English in any given situation.
